The Origin Energy Foundation understands the importance you place on privacy. That's why we are committed to compliance with laws that require us to protect your personal information.

  1. What is personal information, what do we collect & how do we collect it?

Personal information is information or an opinion, whether true or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion.

The type of personal information we collect will depend on the circumstances of collection. For example, if you are seeking the support of the Foundation, we will collect your name, address, phone number, email address, organisation name and information about the projects you are seeking our assistance with. If you are an Origin employee registering with our SkillsBank, we will collect your contact details and information about the skills and time that you would like to pledge as a volunteer.

We collect this information in a number of ways, including through our website, by telephone, through correspondence, meetings and emails and from third parties.

If we are not able to collect your personal information, we may not be able to respond to your queries, provide you with any support or (in the case of Origin employees) register you with our SkillsBank.

If you provide us with personal information about another person, please make sure that you tell that person about this Privacy Policy.

  1. Information collected through our website

Some of the information that may be collected by the Origin Energy Foundation during your visit to our website is not personal information, because it does not reveal your identity. For example, we may record your server’s IP address, the date and time of your visit, the pages you viewed, any documents you downloaded and the type of browser and operating system you used.

If collected, this information will be used and disclosed by the Origin Energy Foundation in anonymous, aggregated form only, for purposes including statistical and web site development. You are not individually identified, however the Origin Energy Foundation reserves its right to use or disclose this information to try to locate an individual where we reasonably believe that the individual may have engaged in any unlawful or inappropriate activity in connection with our website.

    • to evaluate requests by organisations for assistance by Origin volunteers;
    • in the case of successful requests, to organise and provide support in the form of funding or volunteers;

    • to inform you about the Origin Energy Foundation’s activities; and
    • for other purposes required or authorised by or under law, including purposes for which you have provided your express or implied consent.
  1. Spam and Do Not Call Register

We will not send you any commercial electronic messages such as SMSs or emails unless this is permitted by the Spam Act. Similarly, we will not call you on a number listed on the Do Not Call Register unless this is permitted under the Do Not Call Register Act and related instruments. Please contact us if you do not wish to receive further marketing communications from us (our details are provided at the end of this Policy).

When sending marketing communications, we will always advise you of how you may opt out of receiving further such communications from the Foundation. Your consent to receiving these communications will remain current until you advise us otherwise.

  1. When we may disclose your personal information

The Origin Energy Foundation may disclose your personal information:

    • for the purpose for which the personal information was collected; and
    • for the purposes set out under heading 2 above.

Personal information may be disclosed for these purposes to our related bodies corporate and to outsourced service providers, to assist us in delivering and improving our services (including information technology providers, database management providers, data processing analysts, external mail houses and marketing and promotional agencies), and to our professional advisors when we seek their advice (eg lawyers, accountants and auditors) and to our partners to facilitate volunteering in the case of our SkillsBank. Your information may be transferred overseas for these purposes.

The Origin Energy Foundation takes reasonable steps to make sure that the personal information we hold is accurate, complete and up to date. You can help us by letting us know about any changes to your personal information, such as your email address or phone number.

The Origin Energy Foundation stores personal information in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
